Pontoons FAQ

What are your business hours?
Business Hours: Everyday 9:00am – 7:00pm from May 1 to September 30
Pontoon Boats are available for rent starting May 13

Where are you located?
We are located at:

Port City Marina
10 Harnett St.
Wilmington, NC 28401

We are setup daily on the mega dock behind the Port City Marina office right on the river. Please do not enter the private boat slip area of the marina, which is off limits to the public and our customers.

Where do I park?
There is NO parking available in the private Port City Marina space near the water. However, there is ample street parking on nearby streets as well as the Hanover Parking Deck next to Cape Fear Community College a few blocks away and the Convention Center Parking Deck too. Please allow yourself enough time to park and still arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled rental time for orientation.

Is there a place to eat around your location?
Yes! Downtown Wilmington has dozens of excellent restaurants to fit pretty much any cuisine and budget that you are looking for. We’d be happy to recommend our favorite local spots!

What are your age requirements for pontoon boat rentals?
You need to be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license to rent and drive a pontoon boat.

Can we rent multiple boats for our outing?
Yes! We would be happy to help you with renting two boats. Keep in mind that we only allow a maximum of 10 persons on each boat to meet USCG capacity limits.

What if I accidentally damage your equipment while renting?
Please discuss with your safety instructor before leaving the dock if you are concerned about causing any damages to the vessel. Safety is our #1 priority. We inspect all of our equipment in the morning, in between rentals and again at the end of the day. If equipment is damaged by our customers, they are responsible for the repair.

How do we make a reservation?
We have an online reservation system where you can see pricing and availability, just click “Book Online Today” or you can call us at 910-899-8188.

What methods of payment do you take?
Cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX

Is tipping required?
Tipping is not required, but is certainly appreciated. Our staff will be working very hard for your safety and enjoyment. If they do a good job, a tip or gratuity is customary.

Am I going to get wet?
Most likely. You will be playing on the water and could get splashed. I would always prepare to get wet, just in case.

Do you have a changing room or bathroom on site?
There are bathrooms located at Port City Marina for our customers use.

What is your cancellation policy?
We understand, things happen! In the event you need to cancel or reschedule please read below: A minimum of 48 hours prior to departure time is required for a refund to be issued. Otherwise, payment is non-refundable.

What if I am late?
Anyone more than 30 minutes late to a reservation will be cancelled with no refund. We understand that traffic can be an issue, so please allow enough time to travel. If you know you are going to be late please give us a call as our employees are preparing your boat for your day and waiting on your arrival.

Arriving on time is crucial to keeping everyone’s else’s reservations for the day on schedule. Please be considerate of others reservation times and plan ahead. Be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your reservation so we can check you in and go over brief safety instructions. If you need to do anything to prep for your activity (sunscreen, bathroom, unloading car, drinks, etc.) please be sure to manage enough time prior to your reservation as we always try to depart right at your scheduled time.

What if I am a no-show?
No shows will be cancelled with no refund. No shows will be charged the full rental amount, as it is prohibiting other customers from renting the boat. Sorry, no exceptions.

What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
Sure! Just give us a call at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled day and start time. Rescheduling for same day reservations is only permitted if our scheduled time allows.

What happens if it rains?
Our number one priority is your safety. In the event of thunderstorms at your departure time, you will have the option to reschedule your activity or receive a refund. If you are already on a water vessel and it begins to rain while you are out, we can not refund your payment. We are happy to reschedule the remaining part of your time, if scheduling permits. If you are concerned about weather being an issue, please check in advance before making your reservation.

What happens if I bring the boat rental back late?
Fees may apply for tardiness. Depending on that day’s schedule, fees may apply. We try to understand things come up and you may be a few minutes late. Please know that we aim to make everyone’s experience an incredible one. By returning the boats late, be aware you may be holding up other reservations that have also planned on their full scheduled time. Late returns are a bigger issue for us when it is a half day rental as opposed to a full day rental when no other customers will be waiting for your return. Please be respectful of everyone’s good time!

My friends are staying down the river, can I pick them up on the boat?
No. Everyone that rides/uses our rental equipment has to check in with with our staff at the marina. Everyone must be present for the safety tips we discuss in our orientation.

What is your capacity on a boat?
Our Lexington Pontoon boats can hold up to 10 people.

Are your boats covered?
They are all equipped with retractable Bimini tops.

Is there a cooler or ice on the Boats?
Our pontoon boats have built in coolers. We provide ice free of charge for all pontoon boat rentals if requested.

Can I fish on the boats?
Fishing is allowed on all of our pontoon boats, as the Cape Fear River offers excellent fishing. Just be sure to bring your own fishing gear and make sure everyone who will be fishing has a valid NC fishing license. We can provide more info about getting your license if needed.

Can we drink alcohol on the boats?
The same laws apply to drinking and driving in a vehicle as a boating vessel. Passengers 21+ may enjoy a few alcoholic beverages but please take caution.
